Hamish Tobias is a multidisciplinary artist working across ceramics, painting, drawing, photography, and sound. His practice explores the complexities of the body—both physical and emotional—drawing on themes such as body dysmorphia, mental health, the mundanity of daily life, and the fragility of communication. His work often grapples with imbalance and chaos, reflecting a world in which certainty feels elusive. Rooted in process rather than polished outcome, Hamish favours experimentation and unconventional presentation, allowing the rawness of making to remain visible. Through this approach, he creates space for vulnerability and imperfection, inviting viewers to connect with the unresolved and the quietly personal.

I dreamt of a child sitting with a group of adults.
The child said, "You all look so happy."
They certainly appeared happy, but to the child’s surprise, the opposite was true.
One of the adults said, "We may look happy, but really, we’re sad. Things only get harder."
The child was perplexed.
"But you all look so happy."
